Mesogeios Dialysis Center in Crete opened in November 2000 in Herakleion Crete, and is located at a distance of 10 kilometers from Ammoudara –one of the most beautiful tourist resorts in the prefecture of Herakleio-, at a close distance from the archaeological site of Knossos, and merely 5 kilometers from the Herakleio University Hospital.
Mesogeios Dialysis Center offers hemodialysis (HD) and hemodiafiltration (HDF) treatments with safety and quality in a highly-sophisticated environment with the use of state-of-the-art equipment. The unit includes two dialysis room of 1.200 square meters, has a capacity of 160 patients and 40 Fresenius Medical Care 5008S online hemodiafiltration machines, Highflux and lowflux polysulfone and helixone dialysis filters by FME are used, and there is a designated area for treating patients with Hepatitis B. In addition, the Dialysis Unit cooperates with the “University Hospital of Herakleion, as well as with affiliate vascular surgeons, for the immediate treatment of vascular access problems.

Mesogeios Dialysis Center in Chalkida implements a Quality Management System in accordance with EN ISO 9001:2008, by the internationally recognized Certification Body TÜV HELLAS (TÜV NORD), ensuring high quality in provided services and safe treatment. Additionally, the Dialysis Unit follows modern practices for water and waste management principles to reduce the environmental burden caused by the hemodialysis procedure.
The dialysis unit uses an advanced fresh air exchange system in all rooms. The rooms are equipped with individual TVs and internet stations, there is wireless Internet access (wifi), and snacks are provided to the patients during hemodialysis. There is continuous monitoring by a cardiologist and immediate solutions to vascular access problems by affiliated vascular surgeons. Mesogeios Dialysis Center in Crete in cooperation with the unit of interventional radiology at the University Hospital of Herakleion performs various hemodialysis access procedures such as the insertion of temporary or permanent hemodialysis catheters, the venography or fistulography in patients with AV fistulas and grafts and endovascular procedures in access dysfunction (percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, stent insertion, thrombolysis and angiojet mechanical thrombectomy. The scientific personnel of the Dialysis Unit is comprised of nephrologists, nurses and a psychotherapist. The Dialysis Unit is affiliated with the National Organization for Healthcare services (EOPYY) as well as all insurance companies that cover the cost of the treatments performed.
